Cranleigh FC Women made it back-to-back points with a hard-fought 2–2 draw against Hersham Ladies in their sixth Surrey Division 1 fixture of the season.
Despite dominating early possession and territory, the Cranes found themselves behind midway through the first half when a Hersham striker managed to slide in between goalkeeper and defender to tuck the ball home. It was harsh on Cranleigh, whose midfield and defence had been in control, restricting the visitors to speculative long-range efforts and dangerous counter-attacks.
The second half looked set to turn bleak when Hersham doubled their lead, but Cranleigh refused to let their heads drop. A penalty awarded for a foul in the box handed them a lifeline, and Tia stepped up to confidently convert, only for the referee to order a retake due to encroachment from Hersham players. Unfazed, Tia coolly slotted home again to make it 1–2.
With momentum on their side, Cranleigh pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Their persistence paid off when a free kick just outside the area was awarded, and once again it was Tia who stepped up. She curled a stunning effort into the top corner to level the game at 2–2.
The Cranes almost completed the comeback in the dying moments, a header from another set-piece flashing narrowly wide.
In the end, it finished all square—a deserved point earned through resilience, determination, and no shortage of quality.
Cranleigh FC Women host Fleet Reserves next Sunday at Glebelands, with kick-off at 2pm.
