It was match four of the season for Cranleigh Women, and while the search for our first points continues, the performance once again showed the growing strength and spirit within the squad.
Despite the 2–0 scoreline, the game against Horley was far from one-sided. Player of the Match Catherine put in a superb shift in midfield, dictating play with energy and composure, well supported by her teammates across the pitch.
The team continues to gel, blending the know-how of senior players with the enthusiasm of younger talent stepping up from our grassroots pathway. The balance is starting to show, and the future is looking very bright.
After going 1–0 down before half-time, Cranleigh came out for the second half confident of turning things around. Hopes were dashed, however, when an unfortunate collision in the box gifted Horley their second goal.
The game remained fiercely contested but always competitive, until late on when a moment of violent conduct saw Horley reduced to 10 players with a straight red card.
While the result didn’t fall our way, the commitment and progress on display are clear to see. We go again next Sunday, 12 October, in the Cup at home to Hartland at Glebelands School, 2pm kick-off.
