Our third Division 1 match of the season saw us welcome Milford & Witley to Glebelands. This fixture seems to attract the rain every year, though at least this time it came without the usual 45mph winds.
A well-organised and skilful Milford & Witley side dominated the first half, easing to a 0–5 lead at the break. With Laura unavailable in goal due to personal reasons, Cranleigh needed someone to step up, and Hardie answered the call with a heroic stint between the posts. Without her, the scoreline could have been far worse.
The second half, however, belonged to Cranleigh. A revitalised performance saw us take the game to our opponents, with debutant Joy marking her first appearance with a fine goal. Quick transitions from defence to attack created real problems for Milford & Witley, while Fleur’s blistering pace – another debut – kept their defence on high alert. Supported by our third debutant, Catherine, Cranleigh looked a transformed side after the interval.
The season already feels like it’s racing by, and next Sunday’s away match at Horley Town will mark the completion of a third of our scheduled first-round fixtures. Incremental improvement remains our goal, and the energy and spirit shown by this team, whatever the result, continues to inspire.
FT: Cranleigh 1-7 Milford & Witley
