Cranleigh FC is proud to announce that we will be taking part in the annual National Silent Support Weekend on 15–16 March 2025, joining youth teams across the country in promoting positive behaviour on the sidelines.
The National Silent Support Weekend encourages grassroots football leagues to create a calm and supportive environment for young players by limiting vocal input from spectators and coaches. The aim is to give youth players the chance to find their own voice on the pitch, improve their communication skills, and develop their game without the pressure of constant instruction or shouting from the sidelines.
Teams can choose to play with only the coach’s voice allowed or to run games completely silent, with applause for good play still encouraged. The focus is on allowing players to make their own decisions and enjoy the game in a positive atmosphere.
Director of Football Development, James Kendall, said:
“It’s fantastic to see record numbers of leagues across the country signing up to take part in Silent Support Weekend, promoting positive behaviours on and off the pitch. This weekend will provide young players with a great way to find their voice, make their own decisions and enjoy their game, without any distraction.”
This year’s event is set to be the biggest yet, with 194 leagues, 65,400 teams, and over 878,000 players already signed up – the highest participation since the initiative began in 2022.
Cranleigh FC is proud to support this initiative and encourage all spectators and parents to get behind the team – quietly! Let’s create an environment where young players can thrive and enjoy the game on their own terms.
