On a bright Saturday morning Monotype who haven’t lost a league game in 2 seasons came to Snoxall.
Having won their last 2 games 12-0 and 10-0 The Cranleigh team were understandably apprehensive.
From the kick off Monotype were at us with Cranleigh struggling to cope.
As the game progressed we started to get more possession. First chance of the game fell to Monotype with Izzy Denton- Miller turning a great effort past his post . Leo Lord and Sullivan Howick were causing problems up front with a few half chances . Cranleigh were struggling to contain the pacey Monotype wingers but Harry Dancaster cleared up behind the defence.
There weren’t many clear chances in a half that to be honest Monotype dominated.
The half finished 0-0 and an exhausted Cranleigh gratefully took on water and a well deserved rest.
Second half continued in the same vein with Cranleigh pinned back .
At one point I did consider bringing the Monotype goal to the half way line to try to make more of a contest. The first goal came on the hour as Monotype collected the ball on the edge of the area striking it into the top corner 0-1
A freekick 5 minutes later was lofted into our area and a Monotype player volleyed home 0-2.
Another goal soon followed for 0-3 as Cranleigh visibly tired .
However we didn’t give up and an amazing through ball by Josh Maurizi to leo Lord saw him 1v1 with the keeper . Leo kept calm with defenders bearing down on him to slot the ball past the keeper and in off the post 1-3.
Cranleigh now seemed to find energy reserves with further good chances falling to Zach Whittle and Josh Maurizi. With 10 minutes left an injury to Harry Dancaster saw him having to leave the field .
A lack of defenders in the team the last 10 proved to be hard and Monotype scored twice in the last minutes for a 1-5 win. A disappointing result for Cranleigh after holding Monotype for an hour but considering their last 2 results 5-1 wasent too bad and but for the injury to Harry and poor finishing by Cranleigh it could of been closer
