HDYFL CUP FINAL – BROADBRIDGE HEATH LEISURE CENTRE

So the day had arrived, cup final day, champions chesworth youth against runners up in the Horsham and District league Cranleigh Youth, it promised to be one hell of a game.

Cranleigh asserted their dominance onto the game right from the first whistle, and didn’t look overawed, there were chances for both teams, however cranleigh seemed to be getting closer to hitting the back of the net, a great corner from Raul saw Elliott rise above everyone at the back post, his header hitting the side netting was the closest either side came to taking the lead 0-0 at half time.
Some great performances all over the park for cranleigh as the second half progressed, however chesworth were edging more and more into the game, a break from Raul down the right hand side saw him skip past the last defender into the box, a fantastic cross was met by a chesworth defender, who put into his own net 0-1 cranleigh!
Chesworth were far from finished though, and soon enough they started dominating Cranleigh, mistakes were made, and the boys looked stretched all over the park with no shape, a free kick from chesworth, heading towards the top corner was somehow put over by the Cranleigh number 1, this was shortly followed by a fine diving save to his left hand side to keep cranleigh in the lead. The cranleigh lead looked perilous, another fine shot from chesworth was kept out by Jake however he couldn’t hold on and it was 1-1 from the rebound, at this stage there looked to only be one winner…
Chances were again missed by both sides as the clock ticked towards full time, solid defensive displays by Elliot and Gwilym and a well Marshalled midfield by Dom Harry and Oliver ensured Chesworth were not breaking through, the outlet from the defence to Rylan and Rowan ensured that we wouldn’t concede a second, with Arthur Raul and Oscar putting their shift in when it mattered most, the game ended 1-1 and so on to penalties.
