A derby match on Saturday against a Ewhurst side who have been a bit of a bogey side for us.

As with previous matches this season we were straight in to the game with some great passing and teamwork putting Ewhurst under pressure. With Sullivan Howick and Jack Rogers causing chaos down the wings and a very calm and settled back 3 keeping it tight at the back. After 7 minutes a great run down the left and a blistering shot Jack Rogers put us 1-0 up . 2 minutes later Jack scored a second and later went on to complete a first half hat trick

Toby Davies scored another goal with great skill inside the box . Toby went on to score 2 in the game giving him 5 from our first 4 games , no wonder hes happy back playing for Cranleigh. Deon Mubaiwa came off the bench and straight away broke free and scored . Ewhurst couldn’t cope with Deons pace and quick feet and he went on to score 7 in the game( yes SEVEN ) . This was Deons best game for Cranleigh as well as scoring 7 his overall team play was excellent.

With the score 7-1 at half time it was a case of calming down a very excitable and vocal team . It was good to see how despite scoring early and in quick succession we kept our shape which led to more goals , unlike the previous week when everyone poured forward causing us to lose cohesion and we didn’t do ourselfs justice only winning 3-0 . But it did seem as if we have learnt from last game.

The second half was played mainly in the Ewhurst end with further goals from Deon. Sullivan Howick capped a great game with a nice goal which was well deserved . Issac Holt and Ethan Payne completely bossed the centre of midfield all game and seemed to be everywhere in what is developing into a fine partnership and it was good to see them both score.

Ethan does seem to make it his personal aim to kick every opposition player at least twice  ( including the keeper , although he does claim to have kicked the keeper only once  ) and never lost a challenge all game .  Altogether it was the best team performance I have ever seen  despite conceding our first goal this season ( it seems churlish to moan about conceding but I’m a coach so I’m going to ) .

Every player worked very hard for his team mates and showed a great attitude . I must mention the Ewhurst goalkeeper who was excellent and did admirably in keeping the score down to 15

A superb day for the team and we look forward to an away cup game at Albury next week.
